About Yavatmal — A Brief History

Yavatmal sits on the southern edge of Vidarbha, where the cotton plains of central Maharashtra start to drop down into the Telangana plateau. The town shows up in old Mughal and Maratha records under the older name Yot, and was part of the Berar Sultanate, the Nizam Shahi sultanate, the Mughals and finally the Nizam of Hyderabad before joining Maharashtra.
