About Latur — A Brief History

Latur is one of the larger towns of Marathwada, sitting on the dry plateau where the modern districts of Maharashtra and Telangana meet. The settlement was an important Rashtrakuta-era stop, and the dynasty's eighth-century king Amoghavarsha is said to have come from this region. The town was part of the Bahmani sultanate, then the Nizam of Hyderabad, and only joined Maharashtra after Hyderabad State's accession to India in 1948.
