About Kalahandi — A Brief History

Kalahandi is an old town and district in eastern India, set in the rocky highlands where the Eastern Ghats begin to rise from the Mahanadi delta. The settlement is mentioned in early medieval records under the name Karunda Mandala the place of pearls and precious stones because the streams of the area have yielded rare beryl, garnet and corundum gems for centuries.
