About East Nimar — A Brief History

East Nimar, better known by its headquarters town Khandwa, lies in the southern part of Madhya Pradesh on the Deccan plateau where it begins to fold down towards the Narmada and the Tapi rivers. Modern East Nimar runs on cotton, banana, chilli and pulses, with cooperative ginning units and fruit-and-vegetable mandis at Khandwa, Harsud and Punasa. The Indira Sagar reservoir, the largest in the state, supports a thermal power complex and growing fisheries, while the Mumbai–Howrah trunk railway through Khandwa keeps the district plugged into the national network.
