About Central Delhi — A Brief History

Central Delhi sits at the heart of the National Capital Territory, covering the colonial-era New Delhi planned by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker between 1911 and 1931, the older trading quarter of Connaught Place, and the planned governmental zone around Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House. The district was carved out as a separate civic unit when Delhi reorganised its administrative boundaries in the 1990s.
