About Buldhana — A Brief History

Buldhana sits at the western edge of Vidarbha, on the slopes where the Ajanta range slowly drops down into the Marathwada plain. The town is small but the district is widely known for the Lonar Crater Lake at Lonar, a saline lake formed about 50,000 years ago by a meteor strike the only one of its kind in basaltic rock anywhere on the earth, and now a notified national geo-heritage site. The town and its smaller settlements like Khamgaon, Mehkar, Chikhli and Shegaon are well linked by road.
