About Beed — A Brief History

Beed is an old town in the Marathwada region, sitting beside the Bindusara river in the dry hills of central Maharashtra. The town's older name is Champavati, after the daughter of a local king mentioned in regional folk tales, and the place served as a tehsil headquarters under the Tughluqs, the Bahmanis and the Nizam of Hyderabad before becoming part of Maharashtra.
