About Akola — A Brief History

Akola sits in the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra, beside the small Morna river that gives the old town its shape. The name shows up in Mughal and Maratha records as a tehsil headquarters, and the area was part of the Berar Sultanate before passing to the Nizam of Hyderabad and finally the British.
